An Android entry point

A native startup screen, instance settings, and Android Keystore-encrypted device credentials wrap Danger Room’s existing browser experience. Slideshow preferences are kept separately for each instance.

The Danger Room you know

Want List, My Collection, Search Metron, ratings, and Reading Log use the existing instance behavior in an authenticated WebView. Hard Light requires an active connection; it does not provide offline inventory or camera/barcode scanning.

Cover Slideshow

Your covers, cached locally.

Downloaded slideshow covers stay fresh for six months (180 days). A 300 MB cache limit is enabled by default; adjust it in slideshow settings or turn it off to use as much storage as your device allows.

When the cache is full, uncached covers still download and display without being saved. Starting playback removes cached artwork outside the playlist. Use Flush cache in slideshow settings to clear downloaded artwork. Requires Danger Room β-028 and Hard Light 1.0.2; inventory still needs a server connection.

Install & keep up to date

Choose your installation route.

With Obtainium

  1. Install Obtainium if you do not already use it.
  2. Tap Install with Obtainium above. If the link does not open, add https://github.com/erickolb/DangerRoom as the app source in Obtainium.
  3. Follow the prompts to download and install the APK. Allow installation from Obtainium if Android asks.
  4. Track app ID net.chateaulore.hardlight. Version 1.0.2 is a normal release; prerelease updates are optional.

Obtainium checks GitHub releases for updates and manages downloading them. Android may still ask you to approve installation.

Install the APK yourself

  1. Download DangerRoom.apk above or from the official GitHub release.
  2. Optionally compare its hash with SHA256SUMS.txt. Linux: sha256sum DangerRoom.apk; PowerShell: Get-FileHash .\DangerRoom.apk -Algorithm SHA256.
  3. Open the APK and allow your browser or file manager to install apps if prompted. Turn that permission off afterward if desired.
  4. For updates, install the newer signed APK over Hard Light to retain settings. Keep the same app ID and signing certificate.

The launcher name is Danger Room. Hard Light uses net.chateaulore.hardlight and installs separately from the older net.chateaulore.dangerroom client. Configure it again if migrating; your server collection stays the same.

After installation

Connect your own instance.

  1. Get device access. Ask your administrator for a device ID and secret for this installation. Installing a public APK does not grant access. Administrators can use the device credential guide.
  2. Open Danger Room. Enter your instance hostname, such as comics.example.net, plus the device ID and secret. HTTPS is required; custom HTTPS ports are supported. Enter a hostname without a path or embedded credentials.
  3. Save and test connection. Hard Light validates access before saving configuration. No Metron token belongs on the phone.

Change connections under Menu → Instance and device settings. Credentials are excluded from Android backups and transfers; reinstalling requires provisioning again. Revoke a lost device’s credential on the server.

Build it yourself.
